Blogger's Guilt

Ok, I have been gone far too long from my bloggy blog and friends but if your pelvis was opening at the rate mine is, I bet you'd be gone too. Well, maybe it isn't the pelvic pressure that has held me back but rather a good old fashioned case of the Lazy Gagas (term coined by Janessa). There ain't that much excitement going on in my wardrobe. Summer heat and a 36 week size belly has left me in dress after dress every day or my personal go-to outfit- my underwear and a tank top. Makes it real fun when my grandpa shows up to the house and I have to run into my room to find the closest pair of pajama pants on the floor to cover up so he doesn't see me in my chonies.

I'm 4 weeks from my due date. Maybe even closer to giving birth if baby comes sooner.

Dress- thrifted

vintage S necklace- swap meet
earrings- I won in Leah's giveaway but they came all the way from Turkey via BeMe Jewelry http://www.etsy.com/shop/BeMeJewellery

This bench is where I practice for labor. I'm full of jokes now, but I'm sure I wont be laughing later...

Will be visiting all my long lost friends soon. Let me go rest my back first.

My Candyland Baby Shower

I'm back. Been off the radar since the ending of the contest and feel like I've gone from normal Sophia to plus size and pregnant. No, I didn't win, but it was close. Thank you to everyone who voted, tweeted, promoted, and unfollowed me in the process. I had to do it.

The next day was my 1st baby shower which I selected a Candyland theme for cause that was one of my favorite games when I was little, plus I don't like pastels too much. All the decorations were made by my friends and mother. They did a great job at executing my vision. Except baby daddy who drew the line at painting the Candyland characters on canvas. What? A bit much? His sister was nice enough to get some images for us that we were able to print out and use as well decorations. There was a lot of food and everyone had a good time. I wanted to make it worth my guest's while since you know baby showers are l to the ame. Everyone was really sweet to me, a preggo out of wedlock. And no one asked when I was getting married. Good, cause I don't know. This was like a wedding to me. A lot of planning and exhausting. I've never wanted a wedding and now, well even more so.

Baby daddy laid this poster board Candyland board for me in the hot sun. About 40 minutes into it he took off his shirt.

My friend Lisa made me this amazing cake. I didn't want to eat it. My boyfriend's aunt sent the flower gelatins.Everyone was also scared to eat and ruin those.

Lollipop topiaries made out of Dum Dums. Really easy to make.

Opening presents with my mom, I swear it was like the happiest day of her life. In all the pictures she is smiling. She is a little too excited for the arrival of this baby, "stop kissing my stomach, the baby can't feel you, only I can feel you and it feels gross."

Pretty much me the entire day, sippin on some horchata, poured some out for Dora. My dress was thrifted from the Goodwill when I first found out I was pregnant. My shoes were leopard print Jessica Simpson but I didn't get a pic of them.

Gum drop wreath. If you ever have 3 hours to kill, make yourself one of these. They are super heavy. I have 2. Love them.

Candy bar, for everyone to make bags and take home. Stole the idea from my friend Meredith's baby shower. She is the one who took all these pics for me so thank you to her. My friend Rabiya made this awesome diaper cake and brought it all the way from San Jose. Thank you Rabi! I will be using all my decorations again for my next baby shower in So Cal.

I tried not to exploit any of my guests by putting their pictures on the internet, but I know this Fetcherella won't mind. With my friend Janessa who wore chevron print for me. She should have a Mexican baby growing in her womb in no time.

And a side view of my stomach for Lakota who asked for one a long time ago and linking this post to her tah-duh Tuesday http://faithhopeandcharityshopping.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/ta-dah-tuesday-how-to-remove-glitter.html

Have a Candyland party, it's such a fun theme,

OMG, Project Style, Vote for me, Please!

Oh my goodness. I have been chosen as a semi-finalist in round 2 of Project Style, a national style competition with the ultimate grand prize of a trip for 2 to New York fashion week. First, I have to win my round. I had to style a look with a gift card of $150.00 to my local mall, Victoria Gardens and also use one piece from my closet. Dressing a pregnant body is a challenge, but it was very fun. This is what I created:

floppy hat and cat print blouse- American Apparel
peplum skirt- Cotton On
shoes- my own, thrifted

Pussy cat print blouse with a pussy bow? Hell to the yeah.

Baby daddy wanted to know why my head was down, I told him it kept the focus on the clothes. GEEZ.

So now, I need your votes! Voting begins today and ends in 5 days. You can vote once a day. It is between me and another girl. She is not with child.

You will have to sign up for an ID but please don't let that discourage you. If you are bored, and just have an extra 2 minutes in your day, think of me. As you shampoo your hair, think, "Did I cast my vote for Sophia today?" PLLLLEASEEE. POR FAVOR. I beg you.

You can vote for me and see my little video and pics here:

Do it for the unborn! Thank you. Mil besos, many kisses,

LaSophia

It's a swimwear cover up but I wear it like a dress

Shoes- Zara, 2 years ago
headband- I made it, for sale on Etsy

Jessica Simpson should have skipped the whole singing career thing and went straight to making shoes and clothing. Her shoes and clothes are killer. I hope she is the mastermind behind these designs, if not, whoever is, me likes you very much.

I love the print of this Jessica Simpson swimwear cover up. I was so excited to wear it, I couldn't wait to go to my sister's pool, instead I headed to the creek in my backyard. Scenic it is, but hard to get around. I'm 7 months now and it's getting harder to bend down. My usual activities like climbing rocks in heels, now require assistance.

Help

Big thank you to the fine people over at GigaSavvy for sending this piece my way,

LaSophia

Yes, I do wear pants- sometimes

 shirt- thrifted
leggings- thrifted
shoes- DIY
purse- gift from my mom, Macy's

This weekend was full of memorial day thrills:  bbqs and sales at the thrift stores. I woke up yesterday morning and told my boyfriend, "I was so excited about the sales, I couldn't sleep." He replied, " Yes, I could tell by your loud excited snores."

I was so excited to find these leggings out thrifting one day. It was exciting because I never find pants when I thrift. Probably because I hardly go to that section, I'm all about the dresses. For a kind of cold day they were purrfect. My friend Vero asked me if they were maternity when she saw them haha but they aren't and they fit great.

I love my yellow Hello Kitty handbag my mom bought me on sale at Macy's. I think it was originally $68.00, we got it for $46.00. Sales, I tell you. Mad sales.

My thrifted cameo necklace coming to my Etsy shop later today. I had to wear it first, I'm classy like that.

I recommend this outfit to anyone in a hurry. It's one of my favorite go-to outfits. Any button up collared blouse with a pair of leggings. Wear flats or heels depending on the occasion. Add some accessories and you are dressed. Very easy.

I'm linking this post to Lakota's Ta-dah! Tuesday. If you have any DIY creations or other share worthy posts, you can too here http://faithhopeandcharityshopping.blogspot.com/2012/05/ta-dah-tuesday-rock-n-roll-earrings-how.html

DIY cat shoes

So I had been drooling all over Charlotte Olympia's cat shoes and despite my hard fundraising efforts, couldn't find a sponsor to shell out the 485 pounds or even bigger number U.S. dollar equivalent. Thank gawd for blogs, or else I would have never stumbled upon the tutorial to make my own kitty flats on P.S.-I made this I immediately ordered the plain black loafers from Amazon and enlisted baby daddy to do all the hard parts, you know, like painting the shoe and cutting the ears out. Ok, pretty much the whole damn shoe. All I did was glue on the ears, crookedly, twice.

Maternity wardrobe essential, cat flats.

I paired them with a thrifted black lace dress from the G-Will.

They were perfect for the long day we spent in L.A. Starting at Cal State L.A. visiting my mom's good friend from college who works there. It was memory lane for them. From there we went to East L.A. to get my favorite Mexican sweet bread, so soft and tasty at La Mascota. I ate 3 conchas between East L.A. and Lincoln Heights. Yeah, it was pretty bad.

He puts up with all my shenanigans, visions, and projects. I pay him in bread and water and harvest his seed in my womb.

We ended up in Pasadena with my nina. Didn't get home till midnight, but it was a lot of fun. Good thing I had flats to wear or else I would have been spent by lunch.

Happy Thoughts

The first thing my boyfriend said to me after I put this dress on was, "Are you thinking happy thoughts?" It took me a bit before I realized he was referencing Peter Pan and alluding to my Peter Pan collar. What a punk.

dress- thrifted
shoes- Crossroads (2nd hand)

I wore this dress to our baby behavior class today where we learned valuable tips like not to shove a bottle in our baby's mouth just because it is crying. I love dressing up to places where people don't normally dress up. Like government run medical offices, and the doctor's office itself. Although this did backfire once when I wore a dress to my monthly visit. When it was time to listen to the baby's heartbeat, instead of pulling my pants a litttle lower, I was wearing a dress. I had to pull up the entire thing. Such shame. Can't wait till live birth. yayyyyyyyy.

"Think of Christmas, think of snow" Am I flying yet?

I reserve heels for one outing a day. Then I change into flats. My mama didn't raise no fool.

After my 6 12 inch pizza sub from Subway. My eyes started to get weak.

Fun facts- I dont know why I bought this dress originally since it was many sizes too big. I think I was planning on removing the collar. But then...I got pregnant and was guaranteed weight gain. 6 months later, I tried the dress on and it still looked frumpy dumpy. A shorter length was the only thing that could save it, so I chopped 11 inches off the bottom and put a sketchy hem on it. And that's how I beat Shaq.

I.E. Food Truck Fest and a PSA on Spanx

Cocoa butter, check.
Spanx, check.
Tickets, check.

This weekend was the Inland Empire Food Truck Festival and of course I was in attendance. Because I won free tickets from IE weekly, yeah, that's the real reason. It's no secret I'm a mega fan of food trucks and true crime television, ever since I was a little ni~na eating tacos from trucks outside the swap meet. Food trucks have come a long way since then and are always showcased on the Food Network and Cooking Channel. The plan was to pace ourselves, and not get full off the first truck.

With the usual suspects, Krew Heartburn: baby daddy, Leo, Maricela

Is that tempura-ed mac n cheese in your stomach, or a basketball size uterus?

Trick question, both are correct.

Do you want to come to my house after and try on my clothes so I can take pictures of you in them and sell them to people on the internet? K thanks.

With so much food around us, you'd think we'd have little else to discuss, but there was something bothering Maricela and I every place we turned and that was......the lack of Spanx. As decent, God loving women, Maricela and I both had ours on but woman after woman, big and small, was caught Spanx-less.

The female rump is not a smooth topography. There are dimples and crimples, cracks and snaps, crevices and blemishes. Very few women have that baby smooth booty just washed with Johnson & Johnson, powdered the same, and Desitin for the win. So why are so many women wearing thongs and less with their cheap Forever 21 booty hugging attire? I don't get it.

Maybe they can't see it. Maybe they aren't to blame. As we discussed it further our boyfriends began to call us cruel haters. Especially when we even thought of a plan of action: starting a web campaign to please wear Spanx, posting headless photos of offenders around Southern California. But we are not haters, quite the opposite really, we want all women to look their best. This doesn't mean you have to go buy the legit "Spanx" brand, Assets by Target is fine, as is any thing from Ross, or your Mexican mother's hand me downs. She's been wearing Spanx and Sweating to the Oldies before you were forced to make that topographic map out of salty ass clay (yes, I tasted it).

Wearing something between your ass and dress is a sign of dignity and class. It does not have to do with weight, as some would stigmatize. You think stars of today are walking the red carpet Spanxless? It's 2012 people, time to get real.  Please join us in our campaign to spread the power of Spanx and remove the stigma of this great under garment.

SPANX FOR WOMEN!

Who's with me?

Our daughter's daughters will adore us, and they'll sing in graceful chorus:

Well done, sister Spanxffragates.

Cielito Lindo

"Beautiful little sky: From you we came and to you we return."
Pic from inside the eatery "Cielito Lindo" on Olvera St., Los Angeles, CA.

As a little girl I loved when my grandparents would bring me to Olvera St. in Los Angeles. I had never lived in Mexico, so it was always an exciting experience. I loved eating the sweet Mexican milk candy and going in this candle shop. The street holds a lot more for me than just a thing to do in L.A. My grandpa used to play guitar with his trio at the restaurants on this street. Many that remain today.

dress, flats- H&M (I went retail for day one of the conference)
headband- I made it from a necklace.
Aww look at me before I got preggo. Wearing the same accessory combo haha.

I wish for more taquitos. Cielito Lindo has the best taquitos, smothered in a green salsa. I get them with beans and cheese. I ate them too fast to take a picture. whoops. Instead, enjoy this inedible wishing well.

(Scissor) Happy

Let's get real. Spring is here, summer is coming, I'm almost 6 months at this pregnancy and I ain't getting any smaller any time soon. All these factors had me back on my feet at the thrift store last week going hard like I used to when I still had a period every month. I came across this floral print floor length dress, which is "trending" right now. I mean, I don't get it, floral has never been a trend for me, it's a great print, any year but this is coming from the girl who left her faux Target x-mas tree up in her apartment in college all year long cause it "looked cute." I decided the dress would look better with another trend, an asymmetrical hem. So I made the measurements, made my unborn baby's father sketch an arch and cut it. I couldn't wait to put a proper hem on it. I wore it today.

So what if I accidentally measured 11 inches from the waist instead of the hem. I wore shorts under the dress for damage control. (Unlike last weekend at the park when my boyfriend had to use my Hello Kitty purse as a shield to cover my big a$$ as I laid under a tree in a dress).

"What kind of hat is this?" I asked him.
"A blossom one," he answered.

Palms in Palm Springs.

From the back it gathered wind. It was thrilling.

Easter Vacay in San Diego

The only thing that has remained from my Easter celebrations growing up, is my wearing of the "Easter dress." No more baskets, Peeps, church, fingers stained with dye and the scent of vinegar. This Easter, it was about seeing my friend who was in town from Mexico, Megan Jane. She told us to meet her in San Diego and so we did. I never imagined we'd end up at a fancy resort in Carlsbad with $13.00 pots of hot chocolate and $22.00 bottles of sunblock in the gift shop. Awww, the life of luxury.

 Purple mountains, majesty.

"Where are we exactly?" I asked after meeting her on her bestie's papa's yacht in Coronado, lunching at the golf club, then driving North to the resort. "We're in Carlsbad." "Carlsbad?" I exclaimed, "That's where that old lady was raped and murdered in her retirement home because she left the door open because she said the sea air helped with her arthritis." That's how much true crime TV I watch.

My baby's father looked so fine. I had to ask, "Do you do weddings out of wedlock here?"

I was going to wear a vintage white se~norita style dress but as we were packing, I tried it on and asked my boyfriend, "Does it look like I'm trying to cross the border in this?" I decided to save it for another day when I wasn't so geographically close to the homeland. I opted for a Betsey Johnson dress my boyfriend bought me recently with my Betsey Johnson shades. Oh yeah, look at the queen of thrift in designer digs. Ok, they were from the outlets, and he owed me a Xmas present. The waist was perfect for my growing stomach, which is starting to frighten me from certain angles. I know I know, its natural blah blah blah.

Popping my pre-natals with a smoothie that cost $6.50 and a 15 minute wait.

I was taking pics of these birds of paradise when a hummingbird came along. "Sweet serendipity!" I didn't exclaim. Can you see him, he's green? He's a rose sucker, a chuparosa in Spanish.

That's M.J, my b.f.f. and generous sponsor of opulent vacation destinations.

And then, as all good things come to and end, vacation, life, labor pains. Twas time to return home. As we unpacked our non-heavy rolling suitcases from the car, I said to my boyfriend, "Boyfriend, wouldn't the world be a better place if it were just palms and pools all the time? No crime, no drugs?" He responded, "Yeah, but there would probably be more drugs."
